KAPITAL (2007)

A unique film-to-music commission by the Manchester International Festival collaborating with renowned classical composer Steve Martland. Based on four fairytales re-set in contemporary Manchester, the film was shot and edited to Martland's score and showed at five sell out screenings at the Cornerhouse Cinema as part of the Festival in 2007.

“Domestic abuse, racism, suicide, mental illness and parent-child incest all surface in Kapital, while Steve Martland's omnipresent musical compositions tickle and pound mercilessly at your fraying nerves. Despite the unrelenting bleakness, however, Hall's vision for a debate sparking look under the perpetually regenerating skin of a major UK

city has really risen to the challenge. A minor, if miserable, triumph.” **** The Metro
